Q. Where is Temperance Landing located in reference to Surfside on Lake Superior?
   
A.  Temperance Landing is located just 2 miles south of Surfside on Lake Superior on Temperance Landing Road.  It is about one mile from Temperance River State Park and less than ¼ of a mile from the Cross River in Schroeder. Upon check in, we will provide you with a map and directions to the site and your specific log home unit.
   
Q. What if I need to change or cancel my reservation?
   
A.  Temperance Landing requires 7 days advance notice for a full deposit refund, and 14 day advance notice over the Christmas holiday period.
   
Q. Where and how do I check in?
   
A.  Upon arrival, all guests are required to check in at the Guest Services building at Surfside on Lake Superior, 10 Surfside Dr. At check in, guests will be provided with keys and a map to their Temperance Landing unit. Temperance Landing is located just 2 miles south of Surfside on Temperance Landing Road. Starting July 1st, 2008 the hours of the Guest Service building will bee 8am - 8pm. All other times guests will check in at our sister resort, Bluefin Bay, located 3/4 miles north of Surfside.
   
Q. What about check out?  How do I check out?
   
A.  Guests are asked to turn off the lights and secure all windows and doors in their Temperance Landing unit prior to departure. We then ask you to return the keys to Surfside on Lake Superior for final check-out. Check out time is Noon.
   
Q. How many occupants are allowed in each unit?
   
A.  Each home sleeps 6-8 people comfortably. Our rates are based on an occupancy of six adults. Each additional person (over the age of 12) is an additional $20.
   
Q. Are pets allowed?
   
A.  Sorry, but pets are not allowed at Temperance Landing. There will be a $150 charge for any pet brought on the property, and any additional cleaning required inside or outside the property will be billed at $25.00 per hour.
   
Q. Is smoking allowed at Temperance Landing?
   
A.  No, Temperance Landing is smoke free as most of our owners and guests prefer a smoke free environment. There will be a $100 charge for smoking and $25.00 per hour for any additional cleaning or odor removal needed.
   
Q. What amenities are in each home?
   
A.    Standard amenities at Temperance Landing include:
 
  • Three bedrooms, one on each level (each home has different bed sizes, please inquire when placing your reservation)
  • Three full bathrooms, one on each level
  • Air action whirlpool tub in master bedroom
  • Two-sided grand stone fireplace in great room & master bedroom (some wood & some gas burning, please inquire when you placing your reservation)
  • Fully equipped kitchen with stainless steel appliances, toaster, microwave, dishwasher, pots & pans, dish and glassware, coffee maker
  • Telephone with free local calls, long distance with credit card only
  • At least 2 color TVs with satellite programming (many homes have TVs on all levels)
  • DVD player (some homes have a DVD player on all levels)
  • Custom bed linens
  • Bedside digital alarm clock/radio in each bedroom
  • Hairdryers in each bathroom
  • Iron and ironing board
  • Make-up mirror in master bath
  • Amazing Lake views from each level
  • Lakeside grand porch with outdoor patio furniture
  • Small balcony off the master bedroom
  • Firewood for wood burning fireplaces
  • Outdoor classic Finnish sauna – a community sauna that can accommodate groups
  • Access to ledge rock and cobblestone beach (right on the property)
  • Kayak or canoe launch area on the property
  • Full access to AmericInn of Tofte’s indoor pool and whirlpool
  • Washer & dryer in some homes; guest laundry provided at Surfside on Lake Superior

Q. It says the log homes are fully furnished, what should I bring with me?
   
A. 

The log homes are fully furnished and we have attended to the details to make your stay a memorable one. For example, the kitchen is fully furnished with state-of-the-art appliances – including a dishwasher and coffee maker, as well as pots and pans, and dish and glassware for your entertaining pleasure. Each room has distinctive designer furnishings and accents, even candles. All linens are provided.

We recommend that you bring any food and condiments you plan to use; personal toiletries; and your favorite books, DVD’s (although you can rent DVD’s also) and board games. You may want to bring a beach towel if you are planning on using our community sauna and taking a dip in the lake!

   
Q. Is there a local grocery store or market nearby in case I want to buy groceries in the area?
   
A. 

Yes. The closest local market is North Shore Market in Tofte, about 3 miles north on highway 61.  Here you can buy groceries, gas and liquor.  The Holiday Station Store in Tofte, sells gas and some groceries.  Temperance Traders, which is less than ½ mile from Temperance Landing also has a liquor store.

There are a few larger groceries in the area: Zups is located about 26 miles south of Temperance Landing in Silver Bay. And, Grand Marais (about 30 miles North of Temperance Landing) has two full service groceries – Gene’s Foods (IGA) and Johnson’s Foods. Grand Marais also has a Whole Foods Co-op.

   
Q. How are housekeeping services handled at Temperance Landing?
   
A. 

It is our policy not to disturb our guests here at Temperance Landing. Therefore, housekeeping will not enter during your visit unless service is requested. If you would like housekeeping services, our staff is available upon request between 9:00 am and 3:00 pm daily. Our guest services staff is available to deliver additional linens and amenities until 10:00 pm daily. Please dial 663-6880 to request housekeeping services.

   
Q. What should I do if I lock myself out of the unit at Temperance Landing?
   
A.  Guests who accidentally lock themselves out of the unit during their stay should call us at 218-663-7220 or 1-877-723-6426. Or, you can stop by Surfside on Lake Superior for assistance.
   
Q. What happens if we experience mechanical or equipment problems during our stay?
   
A.  Guests who experience mechanical or equipment difficulties of any kind should call us at
218-663-7220, or stop by Surfside on Lake Superior to report the problem. A maintenance technician will arrive as soon as possible depending on the severity of the problem. As is standard practice, no customer refunds will be given for mechanical failures NOT directly due to owners or management.
